“It’s reassuring as a mother to see my daughter learn about defending herself and to practice with other women who understand about feeling not safe in some situations.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed the self defense workshop that was held this past weekend. It was very informative in regards to keeping yourself safe and how to avoid dangerous situations. Not only did we learn how and when to protect/defend ourselves physically, but we also learned techniques and precautions to take to ensure our safety. This workshop was very helpful and I think it should be available to all female college students.”

“I’ve been meaning to send you a note about the class my daughter attended. I stayed while she took the class and I was extremely impressed with everything that was covered and taught in the class. I wanted her to attend a self-defense class before heading off to college and your class was perfect. I would recommend it to any young woman. I also think you could raise your price, as I felt we got more than our money’s worth. I’m so glad that my daughter was able to attend before heading off to school.”

“My staff told me that The Safety Team Women’s Self-Defense Training was one of the best staff meetings that they had ever attended. This was a program of high interest. Many people were surprised that we had fun and laughed while we were learning.”

“I would strongly recommend this program because it provided an opportunity for Moms and Daughters to spend time together and share important information about how to be safe and how to effectively protect themselves.”

“I thought the event was a huge success. The Safety Team was so professional. The fact they are black belts in martial arts and working in fields that expose them to the realities of violence against women gave them a lot of credibility. They clearly understand the dangers posed to women, and are well qualified to speak to the ways we can protect ourselves physically and legally.”

“The workshop was well organized and Christine is intelligent, funny, and clear, making her the perfect person to lead this kind of event. The steps she outlined to safeguard against being in an unsafe situation and to identify predatory behavior were a good beginning to the workshop. She and her team then taught us a number of easy to follow strikes and moves that even someone with no background (like myself) in martial arts could follow.”

“I just wanted to say “thank you” for last night’s class in Williston. I think as a mother this was one of the best things I have ever done for my girls. Your class covered so much information that most people do not even think about. This class gave myself and my girls a feeling of empowerment. I also believe from taking such a course, if we were ever put in a situation that required our defense, a little remembered is better than nothing known. I told my girls I was going to practice my voice on their father but would probably give him a heart attack. This morning he was unaware of what I was going to do and I thought he was going to drop to the floor. He said I only wanted a good-bye kiss for the day. Oh well, it made for a good laugh first thing in the morning. Again, Kudos to you and your team. We look forward to seeing you in future classes you may offer.”

“I have to say, I felt empowered by the entire two hours! I hope they can come back and perhaps lead a longer workshop; I would definitely want to attend.”

“I’m just writing to say again how fantastic the session was tonight. Thank you all for coming and running a brilliant self-defense workshop.”

“First of all, thank you for coordinating this session. I’ve been asking and hoping for a session like this, as I feel it is essential for all women (and men, too) to know how to detect predators/attackers (awareness), have a plan of escape and to know ways to effectively defend themselves. I’ve had experiences where I was assaulted or tried to be lured in by a predator, as have many of my female friends, and my stories and my friends’ stories have convinced me how important self-defense training is. I hope our campus holds more of these sessions. I know I would participate in another one, if it were offered.”

“I had an awesome time and the instructors were fantastic. I did want to learn some techniques that I hopefully will never have to use. However, my primary goal was to have a dry run, so to speak, so that if I am ever in a situation where I needed to defend myself, it wouldn’t be a completely foreign experience. I honestly believe that by having some exposure in a safe and comfortable setting, that my brain won’t completely shut down in this situation, and I will have some idea of what to do. I feel empowered. Thank you for the opportunity to participate.”

“I thought last night’s event was amazing. I was so impressed by The Safety Team. The fact they are black belts in martial arts and working in fields (psychology, law enforcement, forensic chemistry, and toxicology) that expose them to the realities of violence against women gave them a lot of credibility. They clearly understand the dangers posed to women and are well qualified to speak to the ways we can protect ourselves physically and legally. They were the perfect people to lead this workshop. Thank you for organizing their visit. Thank you as well to all who helped with the funding. The money could not have been better spent on an event that brought students, faculty, and staff together. What an excellent experience. I do hope they will return to campus down the road, perhaps for a longer visit.”
