Future Goals

The Safety Team is dedicated to offering programs that are cutting edge, research-based, effective, and responsive to the voices and needs of women. With increased support from donors, fees, and grants, we are working on expanding to reach many more people at high risk of sexual assault, including:

High school and college students. Project WISE (Women Inspiring Safety and Empowerment) is an evidenced-based empowerment self-defense program developed by TST for college women. The primary objective of WISE is to foster young women’s sense of empowerment and ability to make proactive choices regarding their own safety. This program builds a supportive network of youth who will help change the culture to one that respects women and their right to be safe. Programs can be tailored to students 13 and over.

Trauma survivors. TESD (Therapeutic Empowerment Self-Defense) is a first-in-the-world therapeutic program that integrates mind/body movement and self-defense skills with clinical therapy to promote healing and strength. Delivered since 2020 in partnership with licensed psychologists, a majority of participants achieve rapid progress. TST is working on developing trainings and certification to meet interest in this technique from counseling offices worldwide.

Women, girls and those at high risk of sexual assault. Our core program, Empowerment Self Defense, is team-delivered at public venues as well as by request for groups at risk.  No martial arts background is needed, and participants gain new intellectual, emotional and physical defense skills, a new understanding of their agency and rights, and newfound confidence in their abilities.

People seeking to become Empowerment Self Defense professionals.  TST has been training women to deliver effective, safe, and trauma-aware trainings for 15 years, and has formalized its comprehensive training regime into a certification process that will equip professionals with the skills to serve as professionals and/or community volunteers.
